Circus Taika-Aika

A hobby, a Career, a Lifestyle - a Socially Active Culture

Objectives and goals of our association

Circus Taika-Aika is a registered association dedicated to developing, advancing and promoting the circus arts of Northern Finland.

At Circus Taika-Aika, we provide a range of progressive circus arts programmes for our members of all ages on a regular basis, and we currently have around 500 members.

We offer education and training in a variety of circus skills for babies and their parents, children, young people and adults. At our classes you’ll be invited to challenge your body and mind – not to mention your personal and social growth!

Circus Taika-Aika is committed to sharing circus arts with people in the community around Lapland, so our team is ready to travel to perform and give circus classes in different locations, events and festivals.

Circus Taika-Aika is made up of a multi-professional personnel and our team of instructors are given regular educational training to maintain their professional skills.

We aim to improve the development of circus arts and the range of skills and expertise by purchasing and maintaining our circus equipment and staging props.

Our upcoming events and performances are advertised in local newspapers, on local radio and on social media.

Circus School Taika-Aika brings in visiting circus instructors and artists to teach in our classes and courses. We work with other Finnish circus schools (TUAS Arts Academy-Degree Programme in Perfoming Arts, Salpaus Further Education-Vocational upper secondary qualification in Circus Arts) and co-operate with artists from other fields such as dance, theatre and literary arts.

Circus Taika-Aika operates primarily as a self-financing association with a strong foundation of  dedicated and committed members. Participation fees cover more than half of the total costs of our activity.

Other ways of promoting and advancing our work are performances/shows, hosting circus birthdays and Satellite movement. Through Satellite movement we work together with adult education centres and are able to bring circus arts regularly into surrounding municipalities and towns.

Circus Taika-Aika receives discretionary subsidies from the City of Rovaniemi, Taike (Arts Promotion Centre Finland), AVIs (Regional State Administrative Agencies) and Ministry of Education and Culture.

This support helps us to cover the continuing costs of operation, such as rental costs of the training space, purchase- and maintenance of the circus equipment and costumes, salary- and educational training expenses of our instructors.

Costumes and staging of the new shows are generally created with the help of our devoted volunteers.
